Course Syllabus
Description
Safety is our top priority at the space, and we require that this training be passed before accessing the laser cutters.
This training has two portions - an online Safety & Basic Use component, and an in-person, hands-on project reviewing your competency and adherence to safety policies and protocols. Please keep in mind - any training program cannot comprehensively cover all potential risks or dangers, so at all times, please proceed with caution and the utmost safety, and never take any risks.

- Multiple-choice quizzes can be found at the end of each module to reinforce important concepts
- Final Quiz will appear once all modules have been completed
- 100% completion is required, however multiple attempts are allowed
Hands-On Project
- To be completed after you have passed the quiz to demonstrate your understanding and competency.
- We will test your knowledge of:
- Machine setup
- Material setup
- Operation
Please schedule a time with the Makerspace to complete your in-person assignment.
If you do not successfully complete the hands-on portion, you may schedule a second attempt on a later date.
Once the project has been completed satisfactorily, you will be given permission to use the lasers.
Access
- Access will be managed through your Rutgers ID card - before using the equipment, you will be required to swipe your card on the panel near the computers that control the engravers. This will allow you to log in and use the system.
- Access is provided on an individual basis
- "ID sharing", swiping in a friend, etc. is strictly prohibited and may result in suspension of access
