Video Tutorial: Update Your Profile

Canvas provides each user with a user profile that can be configured as desired. In the upper left corner of the page is your "Account" link, with your Inbox and Settings (Profile) links. Review the numbered items below.

Account: Click on the Account link in the Global Navigation menu
Profile: select either "Profile" or "Settings" to view your profile in the Canvas.

Left Navigation: The left navigation will display links to the different areas of your personal profile. Each profile will have Notifications, private Files, and a private ePortfolio.
Content Area: The Profile displays in the middle of the screen and you can edit your profile picture, here as well as the time zone and language. To edit the profile picture click on the default picture icon. A small dialog box will appear for uploading a new picture. To edit default language, time zone, or theme click the Edit Settings button.
Ways to Contact: Over on the right of the screen are the ways to contact you. Your Rutgers email will be listed as the default email address. All private messages in Canvas are routed to this address. Students can add additional email address or mobile numbers to receive notifications via other addresses. Note: This information is used for notification purposes only. Other people in the course never see this information.
Edit Settings: Click the "Edit Settings" button to make the fields for your name, language, and time zone editable.

Other Profile Features

Scroll down the page to see more options in your profile. Review the numbered items below

Registered Services – Current students can link up their Google Drive or Skype accounts with their Canvas accounts. By default, if a registered service is linked other students can see the service when they view your profile. Uncheck the box next to "Let fellow course/group members see which services I’ve linked to my profile" to hide your linked services.
Approved Integrations – If you access Canvas via the mobile apps, a token will be automatically be generated for the device. You can revoke the token at any time, if you retire or trade in your device.
Feature Options – Occasionally, updates will be released for the user profile in Canvas. Newer feature will be available under feature options. Currently option to turn on High Contrast Styles is available under feature options.

Tips about Your Profile

If you add additional contact methods on your profile, Canvas only uses this information for Notification Preferences. In each Canvas course there is a course roster called People. Other students in the course will be able to message you through Canvas and view your profile in Canvas via the People course roster. In People, when someone clicks to view your profile they only see your profile picture and name with an option to message you within Canvas. Please note that some instructors hide the People link, so this may not be available in all courses.
